SFY06 Outcome Summary

 

Programming consists of substance abuse and violence prevention services in all school districts/communities in Butler County.  The Council consistently exceeds service delivery (in hours of direct service) and number of participants/clients served (in all programs/projects).

 

EARLY INTERVENTION PROGRAM ~ school and community based

{Data is based on 391 matched (selective & indicated) youth pre & post tests}

[73% were classified non-user at the start of the program; 26% prior/current users]

Individual direct comparison:

  • Delayed onset of substance use = 94%
  • Decreased substance use = 59% (with 33% to abstinence)
  • 18% decrease in breaking rules or the Law
  • 15% decrease in skipping schools or classes
  • 18% decrease in fighting

 

PREVENTION EDUCATION PROGRAM - school-based

{Data is based on 106 matched pre and post tests}

[85% were classified non-user at the start of the program; 15% prior/current users]

  • Delayed onset of substance use = 100%
  • Decreased substance use = 31% (with 25% to abstinence)

 

POSITIVE HUMAN DEVELOPMENT - an inner city youth education program

{Data is collected on all regular participants n = 22; 7 seniors}

  • 100% remained drug free
  • 57% actively engaged in community service (over 350 volunteer hours)
  • 50% are also actively involved in competitive sports and/or church activities
  • 100% of PHD seniors graduated from high school
  • 100% of graduates will attend college (at 6 different universities)

 

TEEN INSTITUTE & YOUTH LEADING YOU- youth development, coalition and leadership programs. - {Data is collected on 29 youth}

 

  • 100% of the non-using kids remained drug free and 22% of kids w/ prior use decrease to total abstinence.
  • 55% of B.C. TI and YLY participants are involved in leadership roles in school and/or countywide projects (hours invested exceed 500).

   

CELEBRATING FAMILIES - Preschool Prevention program

{Data collected in all Butler County Head Start sites and four Family Resource Centers

41 = preschoolers, 27 = teachers, n = 132 parents}

  • 97% of respondent parents are reinforcing the curriculum in the home after the children's lesson thus increasing communication and expression of feelings with their preschooler and increasing parental self-perception of their abilities as an effective parent
  • 100% believe spending time with their children and talking with them about drugs and alcohol makes a difference in their child's future use.
  • 95% of preschoolers understood the difference between "yummies and yuckies"
  • 98% of preschoolers knew that cigarettes were harmful; 98% that alcohol was
  • 83% of preschoolers knew not to go with people they don't know
  • 78% of preschoolers knew to say no if a stranger offered them gifts
  • 100% of the teachers reported an increase in children's drug and poison safety attitudes and behaviors due to program
  • 100% of the teachers reported an increase in children's ability to identify harmful effects of tobacco use
  • 100% of the teachers reported an increase in children's personal safety and conflict resolution skills due to the program

 

STATUS OFFENDER MEDIATION PROGRAM - Juvenile Diversion Program

{Data is collected on 53 mediations/families)

  • 96% of the juveniles experience improved behavior at Home after mediation; 61% significant improvement.
  • 92% of the juveniles experienced improved behavior at School after mediation; 67% significant improvement.
  • 98% of the families experience improved communication after the mediation; 69% significant improvement.
  • 81% probability of success - did NOT return to court (19% recidivism rate)
  • 92% of the families kept the agreement made during mediation; 76% the entire agreement.

 

 

TRUANCY PREVENTION THROUGH MEDIATION PROGRAM (n = 75)

Over 400% reduction in absences after mediation (14.17 to 3.46)

Almost 300% reduction in tardies after mediation (8.85 to 2.96)

93% of mediation resulted in an agreement on all issues.
